Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is a common foot condition that causes pain in the heel and arch of the foot. It occurs when the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue connecting the heel bone to the toes, becomes inflamed due to excessive stress or strain. The pain is often worst in the morning when taking the first steps and may improve throughout the day.
Causes:
- Overuse from running, standing, or walking for long periods
- Wearing unsupportive footwear
- High arches or flat feet
- Obesity or sudden weight gain
- Tight calf muscles or Achilles tendon
Symptoms:
- Sharp pain in the heel, especially in the morning
- Pain that worsens after prolonged activity
- Tenderness along the bottom of the foot
- Stiffness and discomfort after resting
Treatment & Prevention:
- Rest and avoid excessive strain on the foot
- Ice therapy to reduce inflammation
- Stretching exercises for the foot and calf
- Wearing supportive shoes or orthotic inserts
- Physical therapy to improve flexibility and strength
- Anti-inflammatory medications (as recommended by a doctor)
- In severe cases, corticosteroid injections or surgery may be needed
Early treatment and proper foot care can help relieve symptoms and prevent long-term complications.
